OUR FOUNDERS STORY

Lee started dreaming of playing football as his chosen career, after being successful with professional clubs and Schemes but this was to change at  the age of 18 after being told he wasn’t good enough to ‘make it’, he felt lost and didn’t quite know what the future would hold. Having always been a creative person, Lee decided to try fashion college and wig making, but very quickly realised it wasn’t for him. One day he saw an advert in The Stage magazine for an assistant and decided he would give it a try…and it was this that began his lifelong love of the hair industry.

Lee learned his craft in multiple high end salons in Mayfair, he went on to own a few successful salons and later worked for some of the biggest hair distributors and brands in the world as a hair educator with a specialism in colour. It’s fair to say that Lee is a colourist and hair enthusiast through and through and he was born to work in the hair industry.

As a passionate colourist, Lee was often working at the basin with nowhere to put the tools he needed. He recognised how difficult it was for hair professionals to work cleanly and efficiently at the basin. And this is when his vision for the LEEdge was born – a tool made by a colourist for the colourist.

Lee wanted to create a product that was robust, easy to install and was made from a material that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

In late 2021 he reached out to his engineer cousin Ray, and they began to ideate and develop the product using metal. Working with a team of talented designers and engineers, after a lot of trial and error, the LEEdge was brought to life with a design that fits any shape and size basin. They also created unique magnetic bowls to enable further security when working quickly at the basin, ensuring there isn’t any slippage or mess.

The product was self-funded which meant it took longer to get to market than he would have liked, but he worked hard and believed in the vision relentlessly to bring his product to life for colourists.

Having gone to market in November 2023, the feedback and take up of the product have been phenomenal and it has already surpassed his expectations. The LEEdge is already selling globally and Lee’s dream and vision of helping to make the colourist's life easier has been realised.

But like any passionate entrepreneur, Lee can’t sit still and already has multiple prototypes for other helpful tools for hairdressers in the pipeline, all under the BRAND BY LJB umbrella so if you’re a colourist, watch this space.
